Friend Friday: Loving My Body

Today's FFBF topic is Body Image. And isn't that something we ALL think about, whether it's good or bad? I'm excited to share my answers with you. And I hope you all enjoy reading what I have to say, because I'm extremely passionate about this topic. Even moreso than I'm passionate about colors!

For more information on Fashion Beauty Friend Friday, visit Katy's blog, Modly Chic!
You can also go here to find a list of everyone participating in this week's topic discussion.

{one}
Since you started blogging, has your image of yourself changed?

I have to say yes and no. That's a fun answer to explain, right? I think my body image is about the same and my self-image has changed drastically. I have ALWAYS had problem areas with my body, skin, hair, or whatever part of myself that is driving me crazy at any given moment. I used to run four miles a day, two days a week, and four miles two other days. I was a cheerleader for several years and a swimmer, too. If you asked me to run a mile, today, though, I'd laugh at you and play dead. Anyway, I have never been my "ideal" body type, no matter what exercises or diet I've kept up with. As far as self-image as a whole, I'm much more confident to wear whatever I want and not have to try and wear what "society" deems appropriate for a plus sized woman. If I want to show my legs, I will. If my shirt is tight, I wanted it to be that way. If skinny girls can show off their flat stomachs, I will show off my round one. People may not like some of my sartorial choices, but if I'm confident in how I look and feel (which, generally, I am), I don't really mind others' opinions.

{two}
Are you self-conscious about any aspect of yourself? If so, do you go out of your way to avoid it, or do you post/talk about it anyway?

I think being "self-conscious" is a good thing. Doesn't that simply mean we're conscious of our selves? Whether it's consciousness of good or bad things? So, yes, all the time. I'm conscious of myself regarding how I feel, how I look, body parts (namely my midsection, tops of thighs and tops of arms), hair (mostly when it's frizzy and unruly or extra dirty), and my skin (which breaks out for two weeks every month). I don't go out of my way to avoid anything, though. This is a style blog about ME. I'm unique and I'm not going to hide any of it. If I don't love myself, how do I expect you to love me? Sure, I'm unhappy about my body sometimes, but I'm also really proud of all the things it has done for me. For instance, I created a little life inside of myself. The creator inside of me and the creation that grew inside of me are very gorgeous.
Thank you very much.
And obviously, I talk about everything. :)

{three}
Based on how you're feeling now, what do you think the future holds in the evolution of your body image?

I feel great right now. I want to lose weight, and I don't want to feel pressured by anyone but myself to do it. I'm fine with that. I know what needs to be done and when I get there, I'll get there. I want to create more life with my body in the future. I want to be proud of my body and adorn it in beautiful things. I hope to continue being proud of what my body has done. I tend to look at myself in the mirror and choose bits and pieces that I'm not feeling confident about. Then I look at my face and into my own eyes and remember that I'm really beautiful.

{four}
Do you photograph yourself for your blog? If so, how do you feel about the experience when you're having your picture taken? If you choose not to post pictures of yourself, what prompted that decision?

I take most of my own photographs and my husband has been taking more and more as of late. Obviously, with a personal style blog, I'm going to have photos of myself all over the place (see today's post- oh, you're seeing it right now, aren't you?). I feel awkward when I'm getting my picture taken or taking my own pictures, mostly because I'm unsure of how to pose. I want to switch things up all the time, but I find it difficult to not look like a human pretzel when I'm trying to be creative.

{five}
What would you want everyone who struggles with body image to take to heart?

You're not the only one. No one (and I mean NOT ONE PERSON) is perfect. What is perfect, anyway? If you're unhappy with yourself, you're the only person who can do something about it, and if you love yourself, it's going to show, no matter what you look like. Confidence and security are contagious and beautiful things.

I hope you all have an absolutely fabulous, beautiful, and confidence-filled weekend! Little S. and I are going down to Rochelle's tomorrow, then heading out for some post-birthday shopping! I'm so psyched to see my friend, again, and do one of our favorite things, together! I'll be back with some more 30 Things, tomorrow, too!

All I See Are Changes

A little bit different, today. Yes?
This morning, I had to go to the dentist, UH-GAIN, for this stupid tooth. I swear... and NOW, they're blaming me, because "It seems as though you're a clencher or grinder." Really? Did it really just take 6 months to figure that out? Okay, anyway... hopefully *crossing fingers* we've found a remedy. If not, there are other roads to take before extraction, but I'm praying that won't have to be the case at all. I think I'm going to get a night guard so I don't grind, if that is, in fact, the problem at hand.

My husband came with me to the dentist, because I was afraid I'd get the same, "Nothing's wrong with you. Why are you here, again?" run around. I didn't. Good thing, too. Husband is tough. And by tough, I mean he'd kill 'em with a giant smile and big, sparkly blue eyes. He brought me to work, after the appointment, and we spotted the library on the way. He decided it would be a pretty photo location, and I obliged, obviously. He's the artful eye in the family! I couldn't be happier with how these turned out. I felt very JoAnn, while posing for these photos. She's the queen of locations and definitely takes the cake on stair cases!

My hair style is inspired by Kelley of The Eclectic Owl!
Holy pickles, people! If you don't read her blog, get over there, now. Kelley is SO stinkin' cute, I can hardly stand it. And her "I'm lazy and don't want to blowdry my hair all the way" hair is flipping amazing. I tried. Probably didn't do it much justice, but I tried.
Thanks for being my personal version of perfect, Kelley!

I really hate to leave, but The Bossman is playing Nickel Creek, and it's getting me in the mood to work really hard and make sure my kiddos graduate! I want to genuinely thank all of you amazing people who continue to inspire me. I've made changes, taken chances, and tried new things BECAUSE OF YOU.

In attempt to catch up, I'll do three things, today.

Day 21: Something you know you do differently than most people-
When I'm stressed out and frustrated, I don't want to cry. I don't want to be alone. I don't want to eat ice cream. I don't want to take a walk. I want to EXCESSIVELY CLEAN.

Day 22: A website-
Any website? Or my favorite website? Google Reader is my most visited, Gmail is my second most visited, Facebook ranks high up there, too. Hrm... OH, a favorite. Yes.

Day 23: A way in which you want to be remembered-
I want to be remembered as a loving, compassionate, giving wife, daughter, mother and friend.

Fashion Beauty Friend Friday - I Puffy Heart Colors

This week's FBFF, hosted by Katy, of Modly Chic, is all about COLORS- one of my FAVORITE topics! I was so glad when Rochelle reminded me about FBFF, because after my uncle's passing last week, I completely missed it (I'm sure you understand) and didn't get back on track. I seriously need to sign up for the group emails. So, thanks, friend. :)

1. What color dominates your closet?

I just walked in there to take a gander, and it seems as though I have one to two items in most colors. But if I had to choose one color that stood out, I think I might have a bit too much grey. For someone who puffy hearts color as much as I do, grey is a pretty sad sack for closet domination.

2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis in your closet?

I want bright, royal, saturated colors to fill my closet. I love colors like Crayola's WIld Strawberry, the hued mustard everyone's been sporting in cardigan form, lately, and the royal blue that Kate Middleton is already known for. I also really love deep plum, kelly green and Tiffany blue. Oh, and blush. So, it seems there would be a lot of work happening if money were no object. And by work, I mean fun. And by fun, I mean SHOPPING!

floral tank: WalMart
green polka dotted skirt: I made it
black cardigan: Old Navy
rubine tights: c/o We Love Colors
black boots: Payless

3. What is your mantra about mixing colors?

Do it! Do it! Do it! Party like a rockstar. You only live once! Do whatever YOU WANT.
Dress for yourself.
Get a little crazy up in here.
And if you're not comfortable, just live vicariously.

I apologize for the excessive mantras. I just wanted you to know that I can read. I understood the question. I just like to excel overdo it, sometimes often all the time.

4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits?

For me? Well, I walk into my closet, pick a bunch of stuff that doesn't go together, and hang it together to make an "outfit." Then, I wear it. I'm so not kidding. There are also always tights in 51 outrageous colors + patterns, which is a super fun way to spiff things up.

5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe?

Most of the bloggers I read are pretty great at incorporating color. I think that's a draw for me, since I really like color. People that come to the top of my head for color inspiration are:

- Melissa - A Working Mom's Closet
- Collette - Statements in Fashion
- Ashley J. - A Fashion Fixation
- Louise - Coffee & a Cardigan
- Ariana - FATale Fashion
- Jill - Spoils of Wear

Day 20: A hobby of mine-
Other than singing, sewing, spending time with my girl, and cooking...
my favorite hobby is probably sleeeeeeeep.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! I'll be busy turning 27.
TWENTY SEVEN YEARS OLD.
Wow. Those years rolled by so quickly.

Everybody Everywear: Classic Blazer

Husband made today what he called "Practice Day." I was to practice getting up and getting Little S. ready as if he was not at home. And I was to get her to daycare on time and to work on time.
Yeah, right!!!
Who was he kidding? A morning to get ready, blow my hair dry, and put makeup on with the HELP of another parent? Pfffffft. I was going to enjoy it. We took turns going into Little S.' room to coax her awake, then I picked out her clothes and he dressed her while I did my hair and makeup. Co-parenting is so wonderful. Husband then drove us both to daycare, where he took me in and made me practice dropping her off and not having a conversation with the daycare lady. That was really hard for me. And then he brought me to work. On time. He thinks he bore a little baby miracle this morning, but what he doesn't realize is that Little S. only throws mega morning fits when he's not there. Sneaky, sneaky.

This just in:
The lovely Kori of Blonde Episodes featured me on her blog, today!
Check out what it is that I think about LOVE!
Thanks for letting me share!!!

It's also Classic Blazer day at Everybody Everywear!
I aaaalllllmost wore a grey cardigan, today, but then I remembered, just in time, that it's February 8th! That means it's blazer day and I'm so glad this baby was just cleaned! Unfortunately, my new office has extra wonky lighting, so I'm going to really need to work out outfit photos! Don't you think a new camera (ahem, birthday is in 5 days) would motivate me to scout better locations for my photos?

Day 18: A time when you felt passionate and alive-
Oh my goodness. EASY.

Good day, kind readers!

Blooms in the Rain

I've been really slacking off on my 30 Things for you guys! I'm so sorry! To catch up, I'll do three today. I know you love learning all of this randomness about me. Or, I really just like survey-type things, so I'm enjoying sharing the randomness.

Day 15: A person you admire.
Oh, wow. Well, we all know I admire my mom. But since I already wrote a letter to her for changing my life, I will tell you that I admire my best friend, Jackie. She has been through the ringer, in my opinion, over the last two years. Her husband's program got cut at the school where he taught, so he was forced to find a new job. With baby # 2 on the way, he found it necessary to act quickly and auditioned for the Marine Corps Band. With his extreme talent, of course he made it, and started  his journey to becoming a US Marine. After graduating bootcamp, Jackie's husband took a blow to the leg during martial arts training. His femur endured a spiral break and he's not been able to continue his journey to music school. So, you might be thinking, "Well, this is so much more about Jackie's husband..." Yes, I truly admire him for what he has gone through and for the spirit he is in, after a couple of major surgeries. The doctors hope to see him heal and be able to be a full Marine, again. But, Jackie, your strength and endurance amazes me. You are working full time, have your incredible photography business on the side, are raising two beautiful and sweet little girls, trying to sell your house so you and your hubby can be together, and you're doing it mostly by yourself.
You.AMAZE.Me. I love you, best friend.

Day 16: A song that makes you cry.
Oh, really? You should read yesterday's post.
I've been dropping tears for Taylor Swift's new song, "Never Grow Up," for days.
If you're away from your children (Melissa) right now, I'm giving you fair warning- just don't listen to this, today.

Day 17: An art piece.
Both of these pieces of art (acrylic paint on the left, colored pencil on the right) are by my amazingly talented husband. He framed the leftmost for me as a Christmas gift. It's a painting of a photo he took the day after Hurricane Isabel. I was sitting on his 1971 Chevelle, down at Briar Creek.

I officially went from having nothing to blog about to having too much to share in one post! I was going to do a birthday wish list (in case you all wanted to send me stuff, you know... just.in.case), but I'll have to do that tomorrow, in an effort to make this post take you less than your entire lunch break to read!
So, onto my outfit.

Oh, FYI- second day hair success, today, right? I slept with it in a twisty bun, a la Kimberly's routine, and it came out LIKE THIS! How excited am I? New trick? I'll bite.

This outfit is screaming out for green tights. I just feel it.
Hey, my legs and waist look kind of good in this, too. Eh? Eh?
Okay, now it's time for me to call it quits. I'm getting full of myself.
'Til tomorrow, my friends!
