Hint of Kelly

I've been hanging on to these kelly green knee highs from We Love Colors for.ev.er. I saw them, loved them, ordered them, and received them. And then I sat, staring at them for weeks before deciding I just couldn't figure them out. All of my tights and bright socks are displayed in my closet so that I see them every day. And every day that I looked at these knee high socks, I thought, "I'm too short. The color doesn't go with anything I have. HOW do I wear these?"

Enter the dress I refashioned last week. I wanted to wear it over the weekend and since I'd already showed three ways to style it, I figured I should do something different. Different? Ohhh, it was hammer time. And by hammer time, I mean kelly green knee high sock time. You'll have to excuse the grainy photos because we didn't get home from the playground/grocery excursion until 9:00 at night and, well, it was dark. My camera doesn't do so well in the dark, I guess.

dress: F21 via Rochelle, refashioned by me
socks: c/o We Love Colors
boots: Payless

Now, I LOVE my bright green knee-highs! They're so cute and add the perfect zing to a black and white outfit. I did, however, learn that dresses aren't a good idea when you're climbing playground equipment with your two-year-old. Just some personal experience and wisdom...

Purple People Eater

If I could eat people, I would have eaten three toddlers, today.
That's all I have to say about that.

Also, did anyone catch my awesome lack of knowledge about what day of the week it is? Yesterday, I posted that I'd be back with We Love Colors Wednesday, today.
Um. Yep. We Love Colors... Thursday version.

yellow tank: Target
purple tank: Walmart
skirt: Charlotte Russe (I know, I'm appalled that I didn't just make it.)
shoes: Sbicca via Ross
fishnets: c/o We Love Colors
tan: c/o outdoor summer nannying

Now, let's be honest. It's 100 degrees, easily, with a heat index of up to 110.
Humidity is 100%.
I run around with three toddlers, carrying an infant all day.
Did I wear fishnets and wedged sandals to work today?

Hell. No.
For the record, I can't wait to have somewhere to wear these puppies for real. SO comfy!
But I did wear the rest! With purple flip-flops for easy removal.
I'm on my monthly Miss P, which is totally wreaking havoc on my general comfort levels, personal body thermometer, and skin. It's really awesome.

Bella's fur is growing back just a bit and her face is getting fuzzy, again.
The poor thing lost about three pounds of fur in the Great Hair Cut of 2011.
I got her an "I love my human" tee to keep her warm in our house.

Another bit-o-random for the day?
Little S. is walking around with my blush brush, talking about putting on her make-up.
I'm in trouble.

Please don't forget to stop by and LINK UP for tomorrow's (second edition) Project Self post! I can't wait to see how you're bettering yourself!

We Love Colors Wednesday: Separation

I have one more outfit in the series of ways to style Scout Green tights.
And a little poem {?} I sort of wrote while taking a shower this evening.
Get your mind outta the gutter.

denim jacket: American Eagle
cream top: Charlotte Russe
floral skirt: Charlotte Russe
scarf: Old Navy
tights: c/o We Love Colors
wedges: Ross

Separation

Popular lyrics tell me it's a wonderland.
Mantra says it's my temple.
Coach made it run and jump, lift and yell, and run some more.
Words came out to a sweet tune and I was told it had huge pipes.
I hated it and loved it. Loved it and hated it more.
I hate it, again.
And then I'm thankful for it.
I stuff it full and then it's in pain.
It sits and lays but not much else.
It hugs and kisses and cooks delicious meals.
Husband says it's amazing. Beautiful. Tempting.
Fashionistas say it comes in all shapes and sizes.
Nothing fits.
Miracles show that it is miraculous.
Life was created and grown and birthed from it.
And I still don't understand why I separate myself
from my Body.

We Love Colors Wednesday: Scout Green

It's my favorite day of the bleek, again! I love when this day happens. Although, it's going to be a sweltering 90 degrees, today. Let's so how much longer I can manage tights every Wednesday. You just wait. You'll be surprised how long I can last! (That's what she said.)

Today, I just HAD to wear this new dress that my MIL bought for me two weekends ago. We were in Target and she basically told me to pick one dress out and she'd get it for me! I reeaaallly wanted to get something from the Go International collection, but for as many times as I remix (not often enough), I didn't want to ask her to pay $40 for something. Then, I saw this beauty. I hardly own any red, so that was my first draw. Second, I remembered this post by Kendi and the little red, floral Target dress went in the basket.

I never claimed to be a talented self-photographer. Setting the camera on top of my grill and hoping for the best in my ill-lit back yard was probably not the greatest plan. But it's We Love Colors Wednesday! I couldn't wait for Husband to come home, tonight!

Ooolala, that dress is SHORT!

dress: Target
cardigan: Old Navy
scout green tights: c/o We Love Colors
heels: Bandolina, via Ross (gifted by Rochelle)
belt: Old Navy
earrings: New York & Company

I've checked my work email, had my coffee, and am about to send off a bunch of admissions packets. Hooray for a productive Wednesday morning! Even more hooray that Friday's a holiday and I'm FREE after 5:00, tomorrow. C'mon, Thursday!

Stay tuned for TWO surprises coming up tomorrow & Friday!

Also, have you checked out my AWESOME giveaway?
You'd better do it, now!

We Love Colors Wednesday: Rust

Good morning, lovely readers! If you follow me on Twitter, you already know that it's my favorite day of the "bleek" (blogger week), We Love Colors Wednesday! I've been stoked about this post since Saturday because as soon as I received this GORGEOUS dress in the mail, from Happyness Magnet, I knew it would be the perfect frock to pair with my rust tights!

You may also be happy that these photos were taken the day I got my bangs, so the stylist made them look much better than I can. :)

navy and orange chevron dress: Forever 21, gifted by Happyness Magnet
heather blue cardigan: New York & Company
rust tights: c/o We Love Colors
short boots: Soda, via Shoe Department
bicycle necklace: Barberry & Lace
... and that dang hair tie I can't seem to part with

I wore this on 4.9.11 to go out with Husband and some friends.
But I promise, I'm wearing it, again, today! I just have a different cardi and am sans tights because I actually shaved my legs for once. It's a momentous occasion that was in need of bare legged celebration!
FTR: I'm also wearing a navy cami so I don't show what my momma (and pregnancy) gave me at work.

I had a dream last night and I woke up with such a feeling of fulfillment. To realize it wasn't real was kind of disheartening. Picture this:
I'm on the front porch of a light blue, early 1900s farmhouse. The porch is painted white and wraps all the way around the house. I'm watering the hanging basket flowers and Little S, who is about five years old, is chasing her little brother. He looked about two, had on blue jean overalls without a shirt underneath, and a head full of blonde curls. Little S kept saying, "Momma, look at my baby brother. He's runnin' fast!"
And they were both running, barefoot, through our big, green yard.
Just imagine it...

We Love Colors Wednesday: Neon Green

Happy Wednesday! I think it's going to be my new favorite day of the week because I get to be extra colorful! Not that my outfits lack shock factor, by any means. I wish I could have video taped all of the stares I got while wearing my disco ball, yesterday. If people asked me why I was so dressed up, I had a great jumping off point to discuss SBS Awareness, so it was the perfect subject line for my conversation. I knew it was risky to wear what most people would deem cocktail party/club wear to work, but it certainly served my purpose and I'm glad I did it.

Please don't forget to wear your royal blue this month and submit a photo to
stateofmyheart {at} gmail {dot} com
Each of our little voices can turn into one ginormous one!

Now, let me stupefy you with my highlighter legs!

dress: APT 9, Kohl's
cardi: New York & Company (OLD- not that you can't tell from its slight greyness)
neon green tights: c/o We Love Colors
flats: Guess, handed down from Whitney
belt: Old Navy
necklace: Body Shop

Can I be honest with you? {yes} Okay, great.
These tights came in the mail and I was scared out of my color-loving mind. Ask Husband! I pulled them out of the package and said, "How in THE hell am I going to style these?" I stood with them in my hands, perplexed for many moons (a half hour), in front of my closet. And you know what? I made FOUR outfits. 4 of them. four. Take that, uber challenging neon green tights!

Bwahahahaha. We shall meet again.
and...
I'll be back.

{Neon green tights are now shaking in their boots... or blue Guess flats.}

I got a comment from Ashley and four emails about how I got my blogger bun to be so ginorm, yesterday. Two of the five askers thought I had stick straight hair. So, I've got to tell you that I'm a liar. I'm sorry I lied! But when my hair is straight, like in today's post, my handy-dandy In-Styler or Chi. For my blogger bun, I turned my rat's nest of waves upside-down and teased the crap out of it! That's why it was a bouncy puff ball!

We Love Colors Wednesday: Scarlet Red

You read it right, my friends! New outlook, new feature! Wednesdays are going to be my days to feature sweet legs and my lovely sponsor, We Love Colors!

skirt (worn as tube dress): Thrifted
blazer: Thrifted and birthday gifted by Rochelle
scarlet red tights: c/o We Love Colors
booties: Payless
teal bead and chain necklace: Body Shop
teal belt: Old Navy

You guys know how much I love the combination of red and teal, right? It's unexpected, but so classic at the same time. There was a Tiffany blue/ruby craze in the wedding biz a few years ago, and perhaps my love of the combo stems from buying every wedding magazine featuring the colors for inspiration (AFTER I was married). I'm definitely considering doing this scheme in a room at our house. Hubs will be on board, because he loves me and I'm awesome.

Also, in case you were wondering how awesome Hubs is, he stopped by work to pick me up in the parking lot on his way home this morning. He took my pictures AND saved me from the freezing rain. What a lover, right? Then (just when I thought I couldn't love him any more), he tweeted this:
"Taking pics of @FashionMomma22 brings back great college art memories and how fun it is!"
I love that man.

Just in case you're missing Little S., she taught me what a pentafoil is last night.
A PENTAFOIL.
Do you know what that is?
Also, we took her potty seat to dinner last night and she used it before AND after eating at the restaurant!!!

For all you lovers of pretty things, please check out my friend's mom's Etsy shop, Doe Run Jewelry! Each piece is handmade and no two items are exactly alike. I'm so excited to see where the shop goes!
There just may be a Doe Run Jewelry giveaway in the nearish future!
Get pumped and start telling me what your favorites are!
