On Loving My Man

Truth: There is nothing sexier in the whole wide world than a man who loves his kids. End of story.
That's not really the end of the story, though.

Another truth: I am a disorganized, scatterbrained, sometimes unbathed, exhausted mess, lately.
I've also been known to struggle with a bit of OCD and anxiety... So, letting go and letting live is something that's hard for me, because it sometimes has an end (or middle) result of the disorganization that drives me so batsh*t crazy. In the midst of my pretty much begging to stay at home to raise our kids, Hubs decided to take on a second job. He now works 7 days a week and is only home for dinner on weekends. And I get to be home with our girls. Yet, I still have the audacity to get mad at him when the dishes aren't done. Yes, you read me right. Go ahead and say it. I can already hear you.
WHAT is wrong with that woman?
I'm still learning. I'm learning what he's doing so that I can follow my dream of staying home. I'm learning that the split down the middle (which, let's be honest, was never really a 50/50 split) of chores is more like 90/10, now. And that's because my husband leaves the house at 6:30 in the morning and doesn't come back until after 8:30 at night. And he sacrifices his weekends to make extra cash so I don't have to. And so Little S can start pre-primary at Montessori on Tuesday. And so we can afford to take our kids to the doctor appointments and I can make healthy meals.

Hell, it's HARD. Being a stay at home mom is everything I've ever wanted, but it's hard and it's lonely... and it's kind of like prison sometimes. Not like I'm locked up, but, well... like I'm locked up. Bean is a ticking time bomb and I truly don't ever know how long it'll be before she needs to be fed, again. So, I pretty much don't leave the house. It's a million and eight degrees with fifty jillion percent humidity, so we don't really go outside much. And honestly, I love my kids, but by the end of the day, I just want ten quiet minutes to myself so I can shower with the curtain closed. (Anyone else take prison showers that last 3 minutes, curtains open, infant eyeballs burning through you?)
But every single second is so worth it. These baby girls are my world.

PLUS my wonderful man. And not only does he drop everything and take on a second job so I can be Mommy, Mommy, Mommy. Not only does he take my criticisms and stay calm. No, he falls asleep on the sofa after dinner and I usually have to wake him to come to bed. I used to be so frustrated with that, because I want to fall asleep at 9 pm, too! But who can be frustrated with a man who works his donkey off so his wife can stay home? And who can be frustrated with a man who loves his babies so much that even if he's exhausted after working 14 and 15 hour days, he makes sure they are loved and they know his cuddles and his smell.
I freaking love my man.

Daddy Takes S to the River

Almost every weekend, my husband takes S on a bike/trailer ride to the river. There's all kinds of awesome wildlife there and two Saturdays ago, they ran into a family of turtles and S got to hold a butterfly! I'm so happy Husband got a bicycle and is able to not only spend some time exercising, which he loves, but with his daughter to boot. The best part is that the trail they take goes about 4.5 miles from point A to the river, then on their way back, they stop at the playground (where I usually meet them) for playtime so S can get her "energies" out. After spending all of the weekdays with Mommy, I know she really enjoys her special time with Daddy! Here are some of the photos that were captured on the ride 2 Saturdays ago.
When a little girl chases butterflies quietly and gently enough...
One just might land on her finger!
So, S has a baby doll named Abby. And Abby pretty much goes EVERYWHERE with us. Car rides, stores, playground, trailer rides... S even told me that if Abby can't come with her, she's not coming to the hospital to meet her baby sister. Of course my reaction was, "Abby is welcome! She's part of the family, too!" When S draws our family on her chalkboard, she includes Abby and Poodle (that's her little lovie banket). It's sort of adorable. So, here's Abby!
This is where S sits to watch the minnows in the river. She says the big fishies are mean fishies and they eat the poor little baby fishies. (I guess the minnows are the poor little food.)
This little girl has been the center of my whole world since I got pregnant with her in May 2008. I can't believe there are going to be two precious angels in my life so soon... God surely has blessed me.

All Geared Up

Husband got a brand new bike a few months ago and we found this trailer on clearance at Target for almost 50% off. Because S is always wanting to spend time with her daddy and he's always wanting to get some exercise, this was a perfect solution. The pair went on their first trail ride on Saturday and they had an awesome time!
I packed snacks for S and put them in the side pouch of her trailer. She also took FiFi, her yarn dog and Abby, her baby doll on the ride. I love this trailer because there's a three-strap buckle system and the kid(s) are very secure. I have to admit, though... I do freak out every time they go out.
Husband got a little tracker/mileage/calorie counter thing. He's so cute when he's setting it all up to go on a ride. We were able to pack my car up with all this stuff and I dropped them off at the beginning of the trail. I'd planned on running an errand and then meeting them at the end, but I got a phone call from Husband saying he was going to ride all the way back to the park (near the beginning!), so I met them there. S pretty much had the best day, ever!
 Off they go!
I'm (not so) secretly jealous whenever they go on a bike ride. We put a bike on layaway for me and have to pay it off this month (yikes), but I didn't need mine right away. The thing is, I want it SO badly. I could probably take some short rides right around the neighborhood. It's so cute! I can't wait to take pictures when it gets here. She'll need a name. She's periwinkle with flowers... and not a cruiser! I wanted a cruiser because they're beautiful, but let's get real. I'm knee-high to a grasshopper and those things are built for giants. I have the smallest size for a woman's bike without moving to a child bike. I think it's 13.5". Unfortunately, I won't be riding with my family for a while. I'll have to heal from my c-section and we can't ALL go together until Bean can sit up on her own. I wonder if I can drag S' trailer.

Playing Catch Up - Tulips

I'm not sure if the average reader would like me to smash all of my photos from last week into one post or spread them out across a few posts, so I'm spreading them out. It'll be kind of a wordless(ish) week while I play catch up, since I didn't have my camera cord while I was away. Two Fridays ago (the 6th), my best friend, Christina, and her boyfriend came to visit at my parents' house. Among other things, we found an eco-tulip farm and spent about an hour taking pictures and trying not to trample the beautiful things!

It was a beautiful day... and yes, there were goats. I can't discount the goats.

We've Been Married for 5 Years!

... and I just happen to think it's a huge deal and we're hot stuff! Five years is a longish time, right? It's at least the first benchmark. And at this very moment, as you take a look at our time together over the past 8ish or so years, we're here. Feel free to take a virtual tour of my humble abode, but don't look at the hot tub for too long because a) you might get jealous or b) you ... probably don't wanna know.

Girlfriend just went there.
Before I share the awesomeness that is Husband and me, I just want to say a few things to him. So hey, babe... I, uh...

Shucks.
I still get butterflies when you say you love me. And when you tell me I'm beautiful without makeup on, I want to go wipe my mascara off and be the kind of beautiful that you fell in love with me for. I'm so glad you still laugh at my jokes and listen to me sing. And thanks for humoring me and taking my outfit photos while we're rushing out the door for church or when I have a crazy idea to take a week's worth of photos on a Saturday afternoon. Thanks for letting me drive the brand-spanking new orange Camaro that we rented for this trip right after we picked it up from the airport. Especially thanks for letting me drive it alone. I felt so cool in the grocery store parking lot. Big dudes were jealous of me. I love you so much for putting up with my neurotic behavior, day in and day out. I appreciate that you do the dishes right after dinner (sometimes) so that I don't have to say anything at all. And I love your motivation to clean the cars on a whim - even when it's dark outside and past 11:00 p.m. You have no idea how teary eyed I got while putting this photo montage together. We've been through it, for sure. And I know we have lots more ups and downs to go, but there's no one I'd rather take this ride with than you. Thank you for helping me make the most beautiful little girl in the entire world and being such a wonderful Daddy. I love how you two run around the house having tickle fights on Saturday mornings. I still think it's so funny that you have to ask me what to feed her for breakfast and that you don't feel comfortable picking out her outfits. In the back of my mind, I know it's because you're afraid you won't dress her in a way that I would think is "fashionable." I'm so excited for our next endeavor that is me being able to stay home and raise Little S. and hopefully we'll be able to add to our family within the next few years. We make cute kids... just sayin'. Thank you for these last 8 years together, 5 years of marriage, and I'm looking forward to spending the rest of my life and beyond with you.

Love,
Your Kimberly
