FBFF: Gratitude

God gave you a gift of 86,400 seconds today.  Have you used one to say "thank you?"
- William A. Ward

Today, we are showing our gratitude and giving thanks where thanks is due.

When it comes to me personally – I owe a lot of who I am to:
 My mom and my husband - hands down. My mom has been the constant source of strength and support for every event, every challenge, and every goal for my entire life. She is steadfast, never ending, and her independence amazes me. She loves with abandon and will never stop giving. She believes so deeply that we are doing what God wants us to be doing and that there will be something better around the corner. I hope to be as inspirational and strong as her, someday. My husband has pulled me from the rocks many times. At first, he didn't know how low I was, because we barely knew each other. But I fell for him and it changed my perspective on what was really important in life. At 19 years old, I decided to grow up. He showed me how to have fun without being stupid, that chivalry wasn't really dead- I'd only been looking in the wrong places. He showed me what real love is. And I'm so glad he chose me.

{two}
When it comes to me professionally – I owe a lot of who I am to:
Well, I still struggle with this, every day. I'm not happy with where I am, professionally and I haven't really ever been, because what I want to be doing is staying at home, raising a family. But I definitely owe it to my first boss out of college, Susan, for showing me that I'm not only resilient, but I'm also a hell of a lot smarter than most people would assume. She knocked me down a few times, only for me to come back three steps ahead, just to prove that I was a whole lot more than she thought I could be. Looking back, I don't think she ever didn't believe in me. I think she knew I was a lot like her and that I needed a swift kick in the ass to bounce back even bigger than I knew I was capable of doing.

When it comes to the art of blogging, I’m grateful to these people for helping me through some rough spots:
Oh my goodness, there are so many of you... I want to name everyone, but the people that have really gotten me through the last 4-5 months and helped me figure out who I am when it comes to blogging are the following:

{four}
One blogging challenge I’m grateful happened because it made me stronger was…
The Great Google Account Hacking of 2011
Remember that? Seems like ages ago, but it was really only three weeks ago. I feel like I've come so far since it happened. I owe it to that major breakdown for the organization and prioritization that have helped me realize WHERE blogging stands in my life. It's a fun hobby. It's not a job. It's not making me money. It doesn't help me take care of my family or cook dinner and serve it in the dining room. I realized who my REAL friends were, because of the support I had while going through the hacking situation. And I also figured out that I won't be blogging for the rest of my life. Yeah, I actually thought I'd be doing this for a living at some point... I really feel much more at peace, now that I have my priorities straight. I'm sleeping a TON more than I was a few weeks ago, too!
{five}
To my readers, I’d like to say…
I definitely wouldn't still be here without you. I probably would wear sweatpants to work if you didn't care about this blog! I'm so happy you come here to see what's going on- and to the handful of you that have really reached out and become lovely friends, THIS is what blogging and community are about. Am I right?

FBFF - Spring Trends 2011

This week, Katy asked us what Spring trends we'll be rocking this year! You know this girl loves a good online shopping endeavor, so I had a great time with this set of questions! I hope you all enjoy my picks and I'd LOVE to hear what Spring trends you can't live without this year! You all know I totally lean on you for inspiration!
Leave a comment with your picks, below!
(for photo sources, please click links!)

{one}
First of all, this woman inspires me to do everything she does. So, naturally, I read her blog and then I want to wear floral dresses. All.The.Time. I love the femininity of florals, as well as their timelessness and ability to be layered upon and transferable through the seasons.

{two}
 Kimberly is a genius when it comes to picking out hot trends and showing them in variety. As soon as she posted about brightly colored legs, I hopped on the link almost immediately. Most of you know I don't shy away from color... like, ever. I'll wear colorful tights until the cows come home. But I haven't jumped on the brightly colored pants bandwagon, yet. Oh, I am SO there, now!

{three}
 It's no secret that Jessica looks wonderful in even a potato sack. Okay, I haven't actually SEEN her in a potato sack, yet, but I'm sure she'll make that "in" during the Summer. Just kidding. Or not. I don't really know. All I know is that as soon as this "Shipped Out" post came up in my reader, I marked it as a favorite and filed the photo in my inspiration folder. I don't own traditional nautical or Breton stripes, but I'm thinking I need to. Nautically inspired outfits are classic, preppy, and can be versatile enough to take from work to weekend!

{four}
 If you haven't met my own personal Super Woman, yet, please feast your eyes on Megan! I've adored her since I "met" her blog. It was love at first sight. And I have some serious respect for a woman who can rock 5 inch heels in her last weeks of pregnancy! Whether Megan is expecting or not, she's stylish, sweet, and absolutely fun! I never had a "thing" for the ever-popular Cynthia Vincent for Target wedges (last Summer) until I saw this post! Watching Megan style these babies several times has definitely made me realize how badly I need some affordable, comfortable wedges (the height wouldn't hurt, either)!

{five}
Kori, over at Blonde Episodes, has an affinity for featuring everything drool worthy. Last week, she posted a few photos of the Boho style that's coming back (or never really left). The hairstyles blew me away. They are all so natural and flowing. I have to appreciate that, because my hair is wavy and crazy, and during the warmer months, I prefer not to use heat styling tools. So the Boho post definitely gave me more confidence about wearing my hair au natural!

Kori also hosts Fashion Fridays on her blog, so go link up, NOW!

Alright, what can't YOU wait to rock this Spring?
Undoubtedly, your loves will add many more to my list of "must haves!"

As always, if you'd like to link up with your FBFF questions, head over to Modly Chic and check it all out! You can see all of the other participants' answers, too!

FBFF - Rules of Engagement

During my short hiatus, while figuring out the direction of this blog, I decided to jump back on the FBFF wagon. If you want to know more information about Fashion Beauty Friend Friday, please visit Katy's blog, Modly Chic. You'll also be able to link up with your answers or read other bloggers' answers each Friday!

{Rules of Engagement}
"For a new blogger, the rules of engagement with others in the blogging world is uncharted territory. We learn a lot about how to do from trial and error." - Katy

- one -
Guest posts are a good way to gain new exposure. What do you think is the appropriate way to go about securing a guest spot?

I've honestly never asked to do a guest post. Even though I've been writing this blog for a year and a half, sometimes I still consider myself a bit of a novice when it comes to "rules of engagement." Now, that seems far-fetched when I actually say it, because I think I'm really great at interacting with my blogging friends and forming strong bonds with them. But I think that the successes, guest posts I've been asked to do, and features I've been lucky enough to land have all happened because of friendships I've forged. I've never asked for any of those things. I get asked... And I assume it's because I'm a good friend. :)

- two -
Leaving comments is essential to growling your blog. But how can you leave a comment without coming across as, "Follow Me. Follow me!"?

 I completely and 100% think that if you don't ACTUALLY have something to say about the particular post, you shouldn't comment at all. It's so annoying to get a comment like, "Cute dress!" and then have the "reader's" link dropped, ESPECIALLY after I worked really hard on a post and the point of it is in the words (that someone didn't even skim). If you want me to take a look at your blog, don't drop your link in my comments without having something relevant to say. Make an effort to make me think you care enough about me that I should return the favor. If you really don't have much to say in a comment or are shy to drop your link after a comment, email me and tell me about yourself, that you read my blog, and why you'd like me to come visit yours!

- three -
  We've all gotten a mass email at one time or another asking for blog exposure, a link exchange, etc... But the mass emails don't work. How do you make your email stand out from the crowd?

I haven't gotten these emails or sent them, so I cannot answer this question.

- four -
In interacting with other bloggers, where do you draw the line between seeking support and begging for exposure?

Umm... Maybe I'm completely naive, but I really don't think I've ever begged for exposure. I've asked questions (mostly of Collette) about how to juggle everything and still be good at it. If I want attention, I work on my content. I post my links on Twitter and Facebook. I only post a given link on Facebook once, but on Twitter, since most followers have a news feed that moves at the speed of lightening, posts are easy to miss. So, I think it's completely acceptable to throw a link out a handful of times per day. I don't really go out of my way to ask individuals to read my blog. I think the best way to seek support is to be supportive. I don't really do it any other way.

- five -
What's one rule of engagement error you made and how have you remedied that?

I've definitely been guilty of link dropping. I did it when I was an itty bitty baby blogger. I didn't know any better and had no idea how to get the bloggers I loved to give me the time of day. I learned, quickly, how unbecoming it was when people started doing the same thing on my blog. I nipped in the bud, fast!

- On my face -
Prime Time Oil Control Primer: Bare Minerals
Original SPF 15 Foundation in Golden Medium: Bare Minerals
Blush in Coral Rose (now named "Laughter"): Bare Minerals
12 Hour Eye Shadow Quad in Blushed Wines: Revlon
Lip Shimmer in Rhubarb: Burt's Bees
The Falsies Washable Mascara in Blackest Black: Maybelline

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! Keep your eyes open for some new weekend features! I'm looking forward to the new feel of the blog and I hope you enjoy how things are going to start working around here! Love you all!

FBFF: It Takes Time

 Good morning, Sunshines!
Today's FBFF post is about finding a balance between blogging and... well, the rest of life. This is something we all struggle with, because blogging, for most of us, is our passion and our creative outlet. Katy posed some questions that I honestly think about, daily. I was glad to answer and also wonder what everyone else will say! I have a feeling most of us are in the same boat.
 For more information about FBFF and to see this week's participants and their answers, check out Katy's blog, Modly Chic

I also want to shout from the rooftops, a big, resounding "THANK YOU," to my friends at The Clothes Hound, for featuring me as one of their "Real Women, Real Fashion... bloggers" today!
What an honor!

  yellow tank: Filene's Basement (don't know the brand)
green cardigan: Old Navy
black slacks: Old Navy
herringbone peep-toe heels: Predictions, via Whitney
belt: J.Crew, via Whitney
drop earrings: House of Harlow, giveaway prize from Walk of Fashion!

{one}
When it comes to prioritizing your life, in what place does blogging fall?
  Blogging probably comes higher on the list of my priorities than it should, honestly. I spend a lot of time and energy thinking about posts, doing photos, editing, posting, and trying my very best to stay in contact with my readers, as well as with the writers of blogs that I follow. Being a mom, a wife, working full time, and blogging are my top four most important things. The first two are in order. The second two might not be... That's up for you to decide.

{two}
We all wish we had more free time to dedicate to blogging and all it entails. What are your tricks for taking advantage of the time you do have to be as productive as possible?
 Well, my husband works nights, so after I put my daughter to bed and while he's at work, I choose my outfits and organize my closet in such a way that I can grab an entire outfit in the morning. My husband takes my photos on the way to work and if he's not off that morning, I take them before I leave the house. I (usually) post to my blog first thing in the morning, when I get to work. Shh (and for all of you who work with me- it's not like you didn't know! ;) ) ... Staying in touch with everyone is the most difficult and time consuming part of blogging, but it's also the most rewarding. And that, my friends, is why everyone needs a smart phone. My iPhone keeps me in touch via facebook, twitter, and email, at all times!

{three}
Have you discovered any short-cuts that makes blogging easier or more time efficient?
Is there really a valid short-cut to doing something and doing it well?

{four}
Do you have an editorial calendar or something similar that helps you plan ahead?
I don't, but it's something I've been considering. I've been coming up with a lot of on-a-whim post ideas, but I lose them before writing them down, because I usually come up with things while I'm working. If I could jot everything down on a notepad and make a calendar, I think my blog would be a lot more organized. That being said, I also really like the feel of my blog and how my writing is conversational and about what's going on, literally, right now.... or last night... or this morning. You know what I mean? I think that's what's relatable about me, so I don't want to compromise that with a bunch of tutorials or editorial pieces that aren't necessarily my style. Does that even make any sense?

I do have some how-to pieces that I'm working on, though! And don't worry- they're very me!

{five}
If time wasn’t an issue what you would be doing on your blog/for your blog that you aren’t doing now?
Absolutely! I would be networking a heck of a lot more! I would make the time to really (and I mean REALLY) learn Photoshop. I would scout out more photo locations, learn better tripod techniques, study poses, do my makeup and hair more often (but hey, that also wouldn't really be "me," would it?). I would probably live on Twitter (or do I, already?). I would try to do more question/answers on the blog, which is something I'm trying to put together right now. So, in short, yes. Yes, I would do a lot more!

In other, very exciting, news...
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BEST FRIEND!
I love you!
27's not so bad, as far as I can tell... :)

FBFF: You're Beautiful, It's True

Today's topic for Fashion Beauty Friend Friday is Beauty Products.
I have to admit, I'm definitely more into clothing and accessories than products, but as the days pass, I get more and more interested. I'm especially a fan of anything that will accentuate my blue eyes and long eyelashes.
For more information on FBFF, to link up with today's questions, and to read everyone's answers, please visit Katy's blog, Modly Chic!

blazer: Christy Miller via TJ Maxx (or possibly Ross?)
polka dot top: Motherhood (and no, I'm not preggers. It's just cute!)
Adorablogger who IS preggers, though? ANDIE!
blue cami: Faded Glory via WalMart
skinnies: Charlotte Russe
blue bow flats: Gap (from Whitney)
gorgeous, sparkly necklace: Banana Republic (Christmas gift from ML!)

{one}
What's your favorite drug store makeup product and your favorite higher-end product?

Well, I don't use many high-end products, just because I'd rather spend my "fun" money on clothes! So, most of my make-up is from the drug store, Target, or WalMart. I have to say that I'm a huge believer in

My favorite high(ish) end product is definitely my Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. It's so buildable and goes on sheer, just like a tinted gloss. If you keep layering, though, it gives your lips a soft, beautiful, berry stain. I have to definitely give a big shout-out and THANK YOU to Louise, of Coffee & a Cardigan, for suggesting this product to me. I'm a lifer! I was SO afraid to wear lipstick until this one!

{two}
Is there one type of product that is your go-to, can't live without?

YES! I'm addicted to face cleanser. Am I so weird, or what? Wait... don't answer that. While most women don't leave the house without their lipstick, gloss, or mascara (and trust me, mascara and C.O. Bigelow's methyl lip shine are definitely close to tie for second), I ALWAYS have some sort of skin cleanser or oil blotter with me! I have seriously oily skin, so I really like oil blotters, like the ones from Clean & Clear. They help control and mattify without taking make-up off, which I really appreciate. I also swear by Estee Lauder's Perfectly Clean Splash Away Foaming Cleanser. It's changed my life.

{three}
What's the best hair product you've ever used?

I use Avon's ADVANCE TECHNIQUES Daily Shine Dry Ends Serum every.single.day. I curl, straighten, or blow dry my hair at least every other day, and this stuff is a smoother, anti-frizzer, softener, and shiner upper all in one. Love it!

{four}
Fess up, what's the worst beauty look you've tried to rock and look back at now with a little shame or apprehension that you actually did that?

Umm.. white eyeliner. Oopsie. When I was a cheerleader in high school, all the Varsity girls wore white eyeliner.ON the TOP lid.Well, at least I thought I was cool. In all reality, I think I looked like a sick little monster. Ahh, retrospect is a beautiful thing.

{five}
When it comes to beauty products, we all use the same basic products. What do you use that helps show off your personal flare and personality?

 I am really basic with beauty products. In the shower, it's shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. I use the skin cleanser I mentioned above, and my make-up is generally very simple: a little blush, some gloss or lipstick (if I'm brave that day), eyeshadow, and mascara. The one thing I really do like to play around with is eyeshadow. I like to come up with different combinations, highlights, accentuate my crease, and play with colors that accentuate my blue eyes and yellow flecks around my pupils! I always try to make sure, if I don't have time for make-up, that I at least wear mascara. I'm thankful for my long, flirty lashes, and I never want to discount their ability to make me look awake, even if it's a fib.

Don't forget, friends! You have until MIDNIGHT, tonight, to enter my giveaway!

And then have a WONDERFUL weekend!

FBFF - Blogger Superlatives!

This Friday's post is the launch of the first ever FBFF Blog Awards.
Katy, of Modly Chic, asked us to nominate one blogger for each of ten categories.
These will be narrowed down to the top five for each category and opened up to the FBFF blogging community for voting!

As always, for more information on Fashion Beauty Friend Friday, please check Katy's blog, Modly Chic!

And now, for the nominations!!!
All photos are property of the blogs which have been linked for each nomination.

1. Creative Juices - most creative

Not only does Keira co-own her family's flower shop (hello, creativity!), she has some really amazing outfit combinations, does the most creative and quirky giveaway winner videos, and Keira is seriously kicking some a$$ on Project Re-Style!
YOU GO, GIRL!

2. The Real Deal - authenticity

Melissa is as real as it gets. She shares her ups and downs, and she's a loving, caring, sweet friend, daughter, and mother. She gives us all Melissa all the time. Her outfits get more genuinely "Mel" as the days pass and she reaches out to her readers so well!

3. Spark Notes - most helpful

Kimberly is inspiring in so many ways. She does monthly outfit inspiration calendars, tells us where EVERYTHING in her wardrobe is from, answers reader questions on a regular basis (and seriously does research to answer them WELL), and has informational tidbits in each of her posts.

4. Newbie - best blogger less than a year old

I know I'm not the only one who thinks this talented beauty has taken the blog world by storm, since her entrance just a few months ago! Kimmie is the amazing designer that made my blog look amazing, is a great friend and confidant, has impeccable style (even though she doesn't think so), works full time, and has a husband and little man to go home to! She does it all and she's juggling life well enough to have an amazing blog, to boot!

5. Can You Hear Me Now - most connected

Is there a blogger out there that has not received a comment from Collette? Probably not many. I have no idea how this Super Woman does it, but Collette makes time for EVERYONE. She's always the first to compliment you, the first to tweet you, and the first to run to your side when help is needed. Collette is a friend, always, INDEED.

6. If I had a Hammer - best DIY
Rochelle - Rochelle Approved

Like Keira, Rochelle is also rocking Project Re-Style. She's made several a skirt out of dresses or shirts (out of shirts? YES!), crafted a standing lamp all on her own, can sew ANYTHING on the face of the planet (eh hem, if you hop to her blog and find a picture of her beloved orange chair, SHE REUPHOLSTERED IT!), and she is also a painter and photographer. Yes, she does it all, my friends!

7. Tribe Leader - blogger who leads others and brings bloggers
together
Katy - Modly Chic

Katy is the reason we're all here! She's brought so many bloggers together with FBFF in such a short period of time! Katy is enthusiastic, does blogger profiles to showcase awesome writers and fashionistas (and to introduce them to all of us!). She is dedicated to the blogging community, and I think that's what this award really means!

8. Practically Perfect - most fashionable
Ramsey - Love, Ramsey

The sweet, fresh, chic Jackie O. of 2011? You were looking?
Oh, here she is.

9. Paint by Numbers - best beauty blogger

Tiffany is much more popular in the YouTube world than the blogging world, but she also has a blog that I keep up with. I learned a lot about eye makeup and concealer from her, and although she does feature some outrageous makeup ideas, I applaud her for doing so many "daytime" looks that I wouldn't be afraid to try.

10. Renaissance Woman - best all around blogger, fashion, beauty,
lifestyle
Maegan - ... love maegan

I don't care if Maegan has one hundred bajillion readers. She is the very first blogger that I started to follow and is one of the reasons I began blogging in the first place. Her style is incredible, her DIYs are through the roof, she's hilarious, beautiful, and so talented. I swear, if you start reading Maegan's blog for a week, you'll be hooked for life. And so popular she can't return emails? Forget about it. Not one email I've sent her has been left unanswered. Love.This.Woman.

Friend Friday: Loving My Body

 Today's FFBF topic is Body Image. And isn't that something we ALL think about, whether it's good or bad? I'm excited to share my answers with you. And I hope you all enjoy reading what I have to say, because I'm extremely passionate about this topic. Even moreso than I'm passionate about colors!

For more information on Fashion Beauty Friend Friday, visit Katy's blog, Modly Chic!
You can also go here to find a list of everyone participating in this week's topic discussion.

 dress: Max Studio (via TJ Maxx), cardi: Old Navy, boots: Payless
All photos were taken by my lovely husband.

{one}
Since you started blogging, has your image of yourself changed?

I have to say yes and no. That's a fun answer to explain, right? I think my body image is about the same and my self-image has changed drastically. I have ALWAYS had problem areas with my body, skin, hair, or whatever part of myself that is driving me crazy at any given moment. I used to run four miles a day, two days a week, and four miles two other days. I was a cheerleader for several years and a swimmer, too. If you asked me to run a mile, today, though, I'd laugh at you and play dead. Anyway, I have never been my "ideal" body type, no matter what exercises or diet I've kept up with. As far as self-image as a whole, I'm much more confident to wear whatever I want and not have to try and wear what "society" deems appropriate for a plus sized woman. If I want to show my legs, I will. If my shirt is tight, I wanted it to be that way. If skinny girls can show off their flat stomachs, I will show off my round one. People may not like some of my sartorial choices, but if I'm confident in how I look and feel (which, generally, I am), I don't really mind others' opinions.

{two}
Are you self-conscious about any aspect of yourself? If so, do you go out of your way to avoid it, or do you post/talk about it anyway?

I think being "self-conscious" is a good thing. Doesn't that simply mean we're conscious of our selves? Whether it's consciousness of good or bad things? So, yes, all the time. I'm conscious of myself regarding how I feel, how I look, body parts (namely my midsection, tops of thighs and tops of arms), hair (mostly when it's frizzy and unruly or extra dirty), and my skin (which breaks out for two weeks every month). I don't go out of my way to avoid anything, though. This is a style blog about ME. I'm unique and I'm not going to hide any of it. If I don't love myself, how do I expect you to love me? Sure, I'm unhappy about my body sometimes, but I'm also really proud of all the things it has done for me. For instance, I created a little life inside of myself. The creator inside of me and the creation that grew inside of me are very gorgeous.
Thank you very much.
And obviously, I talk about everything. :)

{three}
Based on how you're feeling now, what do you think the future holds in the evolution of your body image?

I feel great right now. I want to lose weight, and I don't want to feel pressured by anyone but myself to do it. I'm fine with that. I know what needs to be done and when I get there, I'll get there. I want to create more life with my body in the future. I want to be proud of my body and adorn it in beautiful things. I hope to continue being proud of what my body has done. I tend to look at myself in the mirror and choose bits and pieces that I'm not feeling confident about. Then I look at my face and into my own eyes and remember that I'm really beautiful.

{four}
Do you photograph yourself for your blog? If so, how do you feel about the experience when you're having your picture taken? If you choose not to post pictures of yourself, what prompted that decision?

I take most of my own photographs and my husband has been taking more and more as of late. Obviously, with a personal style blog, I'm going to have photos of myself all over the place (see today's post- oh, you're seeing it right now, aren't you?). I feel awkward when I'm getting my picture taken or taking my own pictures, mostly because I'm unsure of how to pose. I want to switch things up all the time, but I find it difficult to not look like a human pretzel when I'm trying to be creative.

{five}
What would you want everyone who struggles with body image to take to heart?

You're not the only one. No one (and I mean NOT ONE PERSON) is perfect. What is perfect, anyway? If you're unhappy with yourself, you're the only person who can do something about it, and if you love yourself, it's going to show, no matter what you look like. Confidence and security are contagious and beautiful things.

I hope you all have an absolutely fabulous, beautiful, and confidence-filled weekend! Little S. and I are going down to Rochelle's tomorrow, then heading out for some post-birthday shopping! I'm so psyched to see my friend, again, and do one of our favorite things, together! I'll be back with some more 30 Things, tomorrow, too!

Fashion Beauty Friend Friday - I Puffy Heart Colors

This week's FBFF, hosted by Katy, of Modly Chic, is all about COLORS- one of my FAVORITE topics! I was so glad when Rochelle reminded me about FBFF, because after my uncle's passing last week, I completely missed it (I'm sure you understand) and didn't get back on track. I seriously need to sign up for the group emails. So, thanks, friend. :)

1. What color dominates your closet?

I just walked in there to take a gander, and it seems as though I have one to two items in most colors. But if I had to choose one color that stood out, I think I might have a bit too much grey. For someone who puffy hearts color as much as I do, grey is a pretty sad sack for closet domination.

2. If money weren't an issue how would you change the color emphasis in your closet?

I want bright, royal, saturated colors to fill my closet. I love colors like Crayola's WIld Strawberry, the hued mustard everyone's been sporting in cardigan form, lately, and the royal blue that Kate Middleton is already known for. I also really love deep plum, kelly green and Tiffany blue. Oh, and blush. So, it seems there would be a lot of work happening if money were no object. And by work, I mean fun. And by fun, I mean SHOPPING!

black lace trim cami: Old Navy
floral tank: WalMart
green polka dotted skirt: I made it
black cardigan: Old Navy
rubine tights: c/o We Love Colors
black boots: Payless
purple necklace: Swap gift from Victoria

3. What is your mantra about mixing colors?

Do it! Do it! Do it! Party like a rockstar. You only live once! Do whatever YOU WANT.
Dress for yourself.
Get a little crazy up in here.
And if you're not comfortable, just live vicariously.

I apologize for the excessive mantras. I just wanted you to know that I can read. I understood the question. I just like to excel overdo it, sometimes often all the time.

4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits?

For me? Well, I walk into my closet, pick a bunch of stuff that doesn't go together, and hang it together to make an "outfit." Then, I wear it. I'm so not kidding. There are also always tights in 51 outrageous colors + patterns, which is a super fun way to spiff things up.

5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe?

Most of the bloggers I read are pretty great at incorporating color. I think that's a draw for me, since I really like color. People that come to the top of my head for color inspiration are:

- Melissa - A Working Mom's Closet
- Collette - Statements in Fashion
- Ashley J. - A Fashion Fixation
- Louise - Coffee & a Cardigan
- Ariana - FATale Fashion
- Jill - Spoils of Wear

Day 20: A hobby of mine-
Other than singing, sewing, spending time with my girl, and cooking...
my favorite hobby is probably sleeeeeeeep.

I hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! I'll be busy turning 27.
TWENTY SEVEN YEARS OLD.
Wow. Those years rolled by so quickly.

FBFF: Authentic and Genuine Bloggers

Day 7: Five things you couldn't possibly live without-
1. Little S. (does she count as a thing?)
2. Toothpaste
3. Toothbrush
4. Facewash
5. Wipes

Katy's questions for FBFF this week pertain to blogger authenticity and genuineness.
I was so excited about this topic, mainly because I tend to ... not read blogs that I don't think are genuine. And I also really enjoy making true friends through this community, which would be hard to do with people who aren't portraying their real selves.

1. Most readers and fellow fashion bloggers value authenticity in the blogs they read. How would you describe blog/blogger authenticity?
Obviously, orginal content when posting is the first thing that comes to mind. Authentic bloggers should have their own ideas and if they're borrowing ideas from elsewhere (a website, magazine, another blogger...), the source should always be credited AND the blogger should put their own spin on things. Also, when I think of blogger authenticity, I think of being able to hear the person speak to me, because I imagine they are writing what they are living and that they're telling me a real and true story or sharing something with me that they are passionate about.

2. When it comes to your blog how do you infuse it with that true/authentic feeling?
My biggest hope for my blog is that when you read it, you have a warm, fuzzy, friendly feeling about it (or me) or the content. I've said it before- I write like I speak. I treat you all as if you're my best friends or my mom. What I write and share with you are things that I truly care about. If I ask questions to my readers, it's because I really want to know what you have to say. I'm not high-fashion, so I don't write about high fashion or try to wear it. I'm "everyday" and I hope that comes through in both my outfits and the things I choose to share with all of you.

3. Have you stopped following a blog in the last three months? What made you lose interest?
I have stopped following four blogs. I suppose I lost interested because posting was once a week or less, and the content simply wasn't inspiring to me. Blogs are inspirational and entertaining for me. I get ideas here. I meet real, genuine, friends, here. I'm giving myself to you in that way, and I guess if I'm not feeling it back, I just don't want to be stressed out with "one more blog" to catch up on in my reader. That's not how it should feel. I keep blogs around that I'm excited to visit.

4. We can't communicate effectively on our blogs, something we don't live in real life... what are some ways you try to live an authentic life?
I work full time, outside of the home, am a wife that goes through the same relationship ups and downs as everyone else in the world, am raising my gorgeous and impressionable daughter, try to spend as much time with friends and family as my schedule (and bank account) allows... I'm just me. I always have been. I'm the funny friend that does everything in her will to make my girlfriend laugh when she's down. I say bad words when I shouldn't and talk too much in awkward situations (because awkward silences are worse). I get home and put my PJs on, immediately. I picked up a $5 pizza last night, because I'm sick of cooking all the time. So, yeah... I'm just me. And now, I'm me, with this awesome blog.

5. Give a shout-out... Which bloggers do you think are truly genuine and why?
Oh holy moly- In answer 3, I talked about why I "keep people around." Well, I follow over 150 blogs at this point, and I wouldn't be following a single one if I didn't think something about the writer was truly genuine. Some people/blogs that come to mind at first thought are:

Melissa has gone through so much in the past year. She's so real. When she needs to take a break and deal with life, she lets us know, because she's a good friend. She speaks sweetly, is a hard-working mother, and doesn't care about being a "mainstream" fashionista. She's Melissa. And she's so good at it. My first "real" friend via blogging- I haven't met Melissa in person (yet), but I might as well have. We're like... soulmates. It's so weird. And awesome.

Another blogger that has become my friend IRL- she's thoughtful, caring, and she shares little tidbits about her day, her marriage, and her real life experiences on her blog. She is just as sweet (if not even moreso!) in person as she portrays in her writing and she's another lady that's got a lot going on in her life, but doesn't mind taking the time to give to the community as well.

I think when people think of "genuine" bloggers, their first instinct is to name people that are lower profile, and a little slower circuit. Then, their second instinct should be to throw that idea out the window and for sure, the name "Collette Osuna" will quickly pop into your head. Sure, Collette has a zillion readers and works in the fashion industry. She's a known writer and was voted Michigan's Best Dressed. That might all sound intimidating, but trust me- the woman is giving, caring, supportive, and I haven't "met" another blogger that genuinely cares so much about her readers AND her friends.

Holy Mother of Pearl- what an inspiration this woman has been to me! ML is another very giving and supportive blogger who has become a true friend. She reached out to me as soon as she started blogging and we became fast friends. She is not only gorgeous and completely stylish, but she portrays herself so well in her blog. ML has an extremely busy personal life but has never shied away from being there for me when I've needed a shoulder.

Genuine, REAL people make genuine bloggers.

Okay, I'm going to process some travel, then hop around the FBFF posts!
I heard from a birdie that someone and someone else might have mentioned me on their blogs, today.
SosososososoSO honored!

FBFF: My Blog, Your Blog, All the Blogs

Good morning! This is a FBFF post, led by the talented and thought provoking Katy, of Modly Chic. Katy came up with Fashion Beauty Friend Friday quite a while ago, and since the beginning, she has created a Google Group that all of you should seriously consider becoming a part of! FBFF is a great way for all of us to communicate with each other and talk about some really awesome topics that really pertain to what we do, here, on the interwebs. Have something to share? Get your voice out there!

Now, onto this week's topic for FBFF.
 This is how Katy prefaced her choice in questions this week:

"As I was reading through everyone's new years resolutions and where
they want their blogs to be I got to thinking how easy it is to become
discouraged by some of the very successful blogs out there, or the
ones we perceive as successful. We compare ourselves and suddenly find
that we are lacking. So this week we are going to be talking about
that."

{And here are this week's questions}

1. Have you ever looked at someone's blog and thought yours will never measure up?

I have looked at several amazing blogs and have become stunned with fear and drop-jawed with amazement. It's intimidating to see blogs with 2000 and 3000 followers- or even 500 for that matter. When I began blogging, I had no idea there was a community of style bloggers out there. Honestly, I read one blog (... love Maegan) and it truly inspired me to be able to write, again. The idea of fashion wasn't really of interested to me until after I had my daughter. It was then that I decided I wanted to really make an effort to not be a frumpy mom. I was a sweatpants-wearing, PJ shopper, and I didn't care who saw me or what day it was. And now, I know there is this amazing community of bloggers with similar interests. All I can think of is, "I'm thankful to be able to write. I'm thankful for a crappy camera that at least *works*, and I feel blessed that more people than my best friends and mom have a desire to read what I have to say." In short, yes, I'm afraid my blog won't measure up to others, but really, I'm here for me and am happy to have my readers along for the ride.

2. Do you (did you) feel pressure to meet some kind of undefined standard for fashion bloggers?

Mostly, I felt pressured to go shopping and never repeat an outfit or obvious piece of clothing. Kendi really inspired me to love what I already own, during her last 30 for 30 challenge. Most of you know that I didn't complete the challenge, but it's not because I wanted to go shopping. I just had a lot of things going on in my personal life that didn't allow me to stay on top of the 30 for 30, much less write every day. My current budget situation has also made me realize (or has really FORCED ME) that I don't need more things. I might want more, but I probably wouldn't have such a desire for clothing and accessories if I didn't read blogs by people that have seemingly endless wardrobes.

3. Many established fashion bloggers are also extraordinary DIYers, bakers, and crafty people. Do you think you need to combine all of these things to be successful at blogging?

Here's the thing- blogging is really awesome and fun, and all that jazz. But originally, the blog begins because the blogger has some type of content he/she would like to share. If you want to share shoes and shoes alone, have great content, and attract readers, then your shoe blog is probably better than a blog that includes DIYs, recipes, outfit photos, and ramblings, if that blog doesn't have original, captivating, well-written content. I think that no matter what you decide to share on your blog, as long as you're good at it and you're being original, you can be successful.

4. The most successful blogs are the ones that have their own personal voice - how are you developing your voice or how did you find yours?

I love this question, because when I think of a blog having a great personal voice, I immediately think of Sydney, of The Daybook. She is so spunky, unique, fun, and relatable. I guess that's another thing that I feel pressured about... I want to be funny, but I'm only funny sometimes. And I want to be so well-spoken and put-together, that my posts aren't so wordy. But if you read Fashion Momma, you know (an example is right here, in the making) that I can't shut my mouth... or stop typing. That being said, I think I've finally, after over a year of writing this blog, found my personal voice. I struggled for a while, wondering if I should sound like I'm teaching moms how to dress or if I should sound like a young professional, since I work at a university. But my personal voice is just that- it's totally me. I write how I speak to my best friends or my mom. I think that's the easiest type of writing to read. I want you to be able to imagine me talking to you. My punctuation is the way that it is because sometimes I need a "dot dot dot" to show you where I paused and thought, or rather, where I totally forgot what I was about to say. I'm a real person with a real life. I have drama at home, at work, with family. I am a mother and my husband works night shift. Life's tough, but I'm happy because I'm blessed. And I just want you all to know all of those things. So, I tell you. In my very best Kimberly voice.

5. Toot your own horn... what's the one thing you do that is unique to you and your blog? What gives your blog an edge?

Toot, toot!
I did it!!!
Just kidding... There are a couple of unique things about me and my blog. One of them is that I'm a plus sized young lady, who stands at the ground-breaking height of 4'11". I've got a seriously tough body type to dress, so I really like that I can provide inspiration to both shorties, and plus sized women. And if there are any others out there, like me, who are both really short and not so thin, please let me know, because I'd love to grab some inspiration from you, too!
Another thing that might not necessarily be unique to me and my blog, but is something that helps me relate to a lot of other fashion bloggers, is that I'm a mom. And I started this blog solely because I wanted to be a chic one. Fashion Momma has branched out to be so much more than just a blog about a mom that likes to look nice, but I really like the "edge" that being a parent has given me in being able to relate to other bloggers.

Thanks so much for reading and I hope you'll participate next week and beyond!
